OverView

The Walkie Talkie, officially known as 20 Fenchurch Street, is a distinctive skyscraper located in the heart of London. Designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, the building’s unique top-heavy design has made it a recognisable landmark in the city’s skyline. The 38-story tower features a mix of office spaces, restaurants, and the Sky Garden, which offers panoramic views of London.

Challenge

The Walkie Talkie project posed several challenges due to its unconventional design and the requirements for a robust reinforced concrete structure. R&R Associates needed to create detailed drawings and provide detailing management for the building’s complex structural elements, including the large transfer slabs, slipform cores, and curved façade. The project also required close coordination with multiple stakeholders to ensure efficient construction and timely completion.

Solution

R&R Associates assembled a dedicated team of Structural Engineering Technicians and a Project Manager to collaborate closely with the client and other project partners. Utilizing advanced CAD tools, the team developed tailored reinforcement detailing solutions for the Walkie Talkie’s unique structural elements. Throughout the project, R&R Associates worked diligently to address any design changes and on-site queries promptly, ensuring smooth progress and minimal delays. The team’s proactive approach to problem-solving and commitment to clear communication helped to maintain a strong working relationship with all stakeholders.
